For week one’s dinner we decided to grill our local fare. We found the first sweet corn at the Farmer’s Market Saturday morning and gathered zucchini from our garden. We also managed to buy what we were told were the last potatoes of the season and got some local tofu at a local grocery store. Our dinner comprised of....
Grilled zucchini sprinkled with basil and oregano (our garden – about 10 miles)
Grilled potatoes tossed with olive oil and rosemary (Dodson Farms – within 100 miles)
Grilled corn on the cob (Whitten Produce and Flower Co. – within 50 miles)
Barbequed tofu with pinapple chunks (Tofu from summertown)
In keeping with the guidelines our family decided on all of the main ingredients were local except for condiments and seasonings. The zucchini was sprinkled with non local basil and oregano. The potatoes did have local rosemary from my back deck but the olive oil was not local. The corn was slathered with non local butter and salt but the corn itself was local. The tofu was pretty local and even the barbeque sauce we used was nominally local. We used Corky’s Barbeque Sauce that is available in almost all our local grocery stores. Corky’s is a bbq joint that started in town several decades ago and when I ate meat was a great place to go. Their barbeque sauce is, I’m sure, manufactured somewhere else but most people claim it as a local product so I’ll go with it this week. The pineapple was most certainly NOT local but hubby really loves it with this meal so I went ahead and included it. I’d say this dinner was about ninety percent local. It was absolutely wonderful although I did burn the corn a little. I’ll try better next time!
Obviously this is being posted with no picture at the moment but the picture is at home and I’m at work – I completely spaced posting this until this morning – we had a crazy busy weekend. I’ll be on time next week I promise and I’ll insert the photo when I get home.
your photo looks so yummy :-)
